Electric motorcycles in Kenya: prices, range and buying guide for 2026

Electric motorcycles are becoming a serious transport option in Kenya because they can serve commuting, delivery and commercial routes with simpler daily energy planning. The right bike still depends on the rider, load, road and charging window.

How much is an electric motorcycle in Kenya?

SafiVolt currently lists the DIHAO EV60-80 at KSh 215,000 and the DIHAO EV60S at KSh 250,000. The price difference reflects different hardware and positioning. Confirm delivery scope, registration, supplied charger and current availability in the final quotation.

A purchase price is only the first cost. Add insurance, protective equipment, charging setup, tyres, brake parts and planned downtime. For a commercial rider, calculate cost per working day and expected kilometres rather than comparing the bike with a petrol model on sticker price alone.

DIHAO EV60-80 versus EV60S

The EV60-80 lists 4,000W rated and 6,000W peak power, an 80 km/h maximum speed and a quoted maximum range of 180 km. It uses a 60Ah LiFePO4 battery with a smart BMS and lists 4.5 hours to full charge under the stated charger setup.

The EV60S lists 3,500W rated and 10,000W peak power, an 80 km/h maximum speed, 210 mm minimum ground clearance and a quoted maximum range of 170 km in E mode with a 75 kg solo rider at 35 km/h. Its 60Ah LiFePO4 pack is described as quick-release and swappable.

Those maximum-range figures come from stated test conditions and should not be treated as guaranteed commercial-route distances. Speed, hills, rider and passenger mass, stops, wind, tyre pressure and battery condition all affect consumption.

How to estimate real working range

Map one complete working shift: start point, passenger or delivery loops, hills, return distance and time parked. Add the rider and typical load. Then ask the supplier for a demonstration or conservative estimate under similar conditions and keep an operating reserve.

If the bike must run two shifts, charging time becomes as important as range. Decide whether the pack will charge on the bike, be removed, or be swapped. Confirm the battery weight, safe handling method, electrical supply and whether a second pack is included or separately priced.

Electric boda boda and delivery use

For boda boda work, focus on passenger comfort, rear suspension, footrests, seat length, braking and hill performance with a passenger. For delivery, check rack rating, box mounting, stability and how the load changes range.

Downtime is a financial cost. Ask who diagnoses faults, which consumables are stocked, typical parts lead times and what the warranty excludes. A strong fleet plan includes spare-bike or spare-battery capacity rather than assuming every unit runs every day.

Charging and electricity

EPRA’s e-mobility guidelines cover public and private charging infrastructure and state that the approved e-mobility tariff can apply to battery swapping. Site electrical work should be assessed by a qualified professional, especially where several motorcycles will charge together.

For a simple energy estimate, multiply the energy drawn by the all-in electricity price on the relevant bill or charging service. Do not compare a petrol pump price with only the base energy component of an electricity tariff; include the charges that actually appear on the bill.

KNBS reports that registrations of motorcycles, autocycles and three-wheelers nearly doubled to 252,241 units in 2025, driven mainly by motor and autocycles.
